Individual Sports P-40

 

            Individual Sports is designed to enable the student to acquire the basic and intermediate motor skills in the following individual sports: Golf, Tennis, Table Tennis, and Badminton.  After successfully completing this semester course, students will earn one half of a credit towards graduation.

 

Content Standards:

  1. Students will understand, explain and apply concepts related to health promotion, and maintain healthy lifestyles. 
  2. Students will understand, explain, and demonstrate the various motor skills that relate to selected sports. 

Course Outline

 

Within a four-week block, the student will be able to:

  1. State the history of selected sports.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of rules and regulations of the selected sports.
  3. Acquire the motor skills required to perform the selected sports.

 

Class Requirements

 

Students are expected to wear the Woodrow Wilson physical education uniform that consists of a Wilson Tiger tee-shirt as well as Wilson Tiger shorts.  This uniform also includes tennis shoes and white socks.  Students are required to report to class on time and dressed in their Wilson Tiger uniform.

 

Materials and Equipment Needed

 

Students are required to have the following: Wilson Tiger physical education uniform, combination lock, notebook, and towel.

 

Attendance and Participation

 

Attendance and daily participation is mandatory!  Three unexcused absences in a double-period class within an advisory may result in failure.  Three unexcused tardies within an advisory will be counted as one unexcused absence.

 

Grading Scale

 

The following grading scale will be used to complete an assessment for each individual in the class:

 

Activity Phase: Preparation and Participation- 65% of final grade.

Testing Phase: Skill Tests- 25% of final grade

                        Written Tests- 5% of final grade

                        Special Projects- 5% of final grade
