Course
Description:
Focuses on application of health
skills in the areas of coping with life’s situations, human sexuality,
environmental and consumer concerns, personal health appraisal and other health
related issues. The physical education
component provides fitness assessment, intermediate advanced skill performance
individual and team sports, aquatics, and other lifetime sports. Application of theory of game play and
officiating will be related to selected sports.
Content
Standards:
Students must understand, explain,
and apply concepts related to health promotion and disease prevention in order
to achieve and maintain healthy lifestyles.
Students must access, interpret,
evaluate, and communicate health information and influence of ethnicity, media,
and technology.
Students shall demonstrate competence
in the knowledge of and experience in the development of performance skills in
a variety of physical activities.
Course
Outline:
Aquatics will be taught for one
advisory; health for one advisory; indoor activities for one advisory; outdoor
activities for one advisory.
Health education will consist of
reading, writing, reporting, test taking and home assignments. The course is designed to enable students to
acquire knowledge and master required course objective pertaining to any and
all of the subjects listed below:
Students
will complete the following objectives for each sport covered in the Physical
Education component:

Course
Requirements:
Attendance and participation is
required. Any absence must be supported
by a note from home. Three unexcused
absences in a double-period class or five unexcused absences in a single-period
class within an advisory may result in failure.
Medical statements are to be
submitted on the first day of class if a student is to be exempt
from a Physical Education component. As
part of your personal hygiene, it is mandatory that all students take a shower.
